Public Relations Coordinator Running into 2000 200-275 East 8th Ave Vancouver, BC, V5T 1R9 (604) 889-8543/535-5129 (fax) For Immediate Release LOCAL MAN RUNS ACROSS CANADA TO WELCOME THE NEW MILLENNIUM
VANCOUVER, BC - Kevin Thomson, former owner of Carpe Diem Adventures Inc., plans on celebrating the year 2000 with a millennium run from Vancouver to St Johns, Newfoundland, starting on March 17, 1999. Thomson will be given a police escort from Vancouver City Hall to mark the commencement of the run. On his journey, Thomson plans to encourage Canadians to mail 50,000 postcards, with their millennium wishes to St Johns. The millennium run is a solo journey in which Thomson will be transporting his own goods with him in a custom designed aluminum cart known as the "Roadrunner." The Roadrunner was designed and manufactured by YESS Products Ltd., makers of BMX bicycles. Thomson is probably the first cross Canada runner that will not be asking anyone for money; all hes collecting is memories. "As Canada approaches the new millennium, many people are caught up in the Y2K scare," states Thomson. "Running into 2000 is simply a celebration of Canada, a celebration of a strong united country entering the new millennium." -30-
